Web/Brand Tip of the Week
The very first thing that your website should communicate when it loads should be your Unique Value Proposition. This is what makes you different based off of your direct competitors. It is the ultimate factor that buyers base their decision on when purchasing a product or service. Not only can you hook them in right away with a strong message, but start gaining traction in the users buyer journey.
To achieve this, log into your website and ensure that the main headline is set as an H1 (heading 1). Then, insert a short and compelling message that encapsulates the unique value proposition.

[Deep Dive] Conquering Image Optimizations for Web
File size matters in website development! One of the most important factors when it comes to SEO is the total weight (megabytes) of each page. You should aim to have each image below 100kb. Images can easily be 10mb-100mb (10,000kb-100,000kb). The average size of a web page is 2.2 mb (2,200kb), so as you can see uncompressed images can easily make a webpage 100 times larger than what it should be. Here are 3 ways you can help reduce the file size of images.
1. Online Compression Tools
First, run each image through a free online image compressor before uploading them to your website. There are a ton of these free, easy to use tools online that can greatly compress each image. These can be very effective as I’ve seen images be compressed up to 90 percent!
2. Photo Editors
Second, if you need to further reduce the file size, decrease the width and height of the image to match the container size on your website. For example, if your image is natively 1,000px by 1,000px and your container size for that image on the website is 300px by 300px, then your image is more than 3 times bigger than it should be. You can decrease the width and height of the image by opening the image in a photo editing application like photoshop and use the “save as” or “export as” feature to save the image in the right settings.
3. WEBP File Format
Third, you can use the WEBP file format. WEBP is a new file format that was developed by Google specifically for web usage. Simply by converting your image from a JPEG to a WEBP file format, you can further reduce the file size. I recommend every image uploaded on your website be converted to WEBP if possible.
By taking advantage of free online image compressors, image editing software, and the WEBP file format, you are well on your way to creating light weight and fast websites!
